A Bride for Adam
What can we learn about Jesus from the story of Adam, an innocent man who was wounded in his side for the sake of his bride? The Apostle Paul says that Jesus was a new and greater Adam. The similarities between Adam and Jesus are quite remarkable. They both had no father except the Lord God, and they both inaugurated the beginning of a new creation. But perhaps the most striking similarity of all is the scar that both of them bear in the side—a scar received for the sake of their bride! Is it possible that God intended Adam’s bloody wounding in the side for the sake of Eve to anticipate Jesus’ bloody wounding in the side for the sake of his bride, the Church?
